今日は、ミステリオサマーキャンプに小さいころから参加してくれているキャンパーSHUTAROの、陸上引退レースでの感動的なストーリーをお伝えします。（写真は彼が、小学生の頃）

時、インターハイ県予選。400Mハードルで3着までが次に進めるレース。３着まで予選通過で、最終コーナー回って３位争い！

気持ちが焦ったのか、最後のハードル引っ掛けて胸から落ちてそれでもふらつきながらゴール。

右足首靱帯損傷と、両足の擦過傷。無様に転んでから、足を引きずっても立ち上がり、懸命に前へ前へ進む姿は鬼気迫るものがあったと、お母さまは語ります。

勝ち上がれなくても自己ベストは出したいと、SHUTAROにとっては半年頑張って準備してきたレース。

大切な家族に見守れながら、ベストを尽くしたSHUTARO。

そして、一言、「攻めて、攻めて、負けたのだから仕方がない。いやぁ、しかし、人間余計な欲を出すといかんなぁ。」

最後まであきらめずに、精一杯やり通したSHUTARO、すごいぞっ、ホントに感動的なレースだったと思います。

彼を見ていた大勢の人たちが、どれだけ心を動かされたことでしょう。彼にとっても、チームにとっても、家族にとっても、後輩やレ−スを見ていた人たちにとっても、立派なMAKE A DIFFERENCE だったと思います。

名誉の負傷を果たしたSHUTARO、やったね、おめでとう、よくここまで頑張りましたね！！！！！

The Honorable Injury- SHUTARO

Today I would like to share a beautiful story about SHUTARO and his last race in high school. SHUTARO has been participating in the MSTERIO summer camp for a long time. (Photo: SHUTARO when he was in elementary school)

He was one of the athletes in the qualifying 400-meter hurdles race for the national high school track competition, where only the top three athletes qualify for the next race.

During the last lap, the biggest competition was for the third place, and SHUTARO was competing for this position!

There was an unbelievable amount of pressure on him, when he accidentally fell and hit the ground with his chest at the last hurdle. Yet, he got up and slowly walked to the finish line. He did not qualify, however he completed the race.

The ligament of his left leg tore, and both his legs were injured. “After falling very badly, he still stood up on his legs and used all his power to reach the finish line,” his mother mentioned. “It was just unbelievable.”

Before the competition, SHUTARO set a goal to break his best time, even if he could not make it to the final race. And he worked very hard toward his goal for the last half year for the race.

SHUTARO did his very best and his family witnessed that.

He said, “I tried and tried then lost, and I don't regret it. Well, however, I learned that things don't work out when you are too greedy.”

SHUTARO, who never gave up until the end, is extremely impressive. I believe that it was one of the best races without a doubt.

How moving and inspirational must have been for those who witnessed his race. It was a great “MAKE A DIFFERENCE” experience for SHUTARO, as well as his team, family and everyone around him.

SHUTARO, with honorable injury, we are so proud of you.

Make A Difference - Linda & ANPO

ミステリオのことをいつも応援してくれているLINDA HOAGLUNDさん（テイーンズのゲストとしてもお招きしましたね！）が制作中の映画　"ANPO"をサポートするために、今年の3月、友人宅のロフトアパートで、Fund raise = ファンドレーズ（資金集め）のパーテイーを開催しました。

NYでも有名なレストランOMENのお食事に、ワインやお酒でワイワイと100名ほどのリンダファンで会場はいっぱい。アコーデイオン＆ギターの生演奏が、その場の雰囲気を盛り上げてくれました。

この広い素敵な場所を”ただ”で提供してくださった友人夫妻は、飲物代も持ってくださり、OMENの食事は、オーナーが全部”ただ”で提供してくださったりと、LINDAの為ならと、参加者のみなさんが自分のできることを、驚くほど一生懸命に精一杯、協力してくださいました。

その結果、この夜だけで集まった資金は約3500ドル（35万円）！これぞ、Make a Differenceそのものだなあと感謝。

いよいよLINDAの映画も完成まで、もうあと一歩という時期に、今週号の雑誌アエラに、彼女のことが掲載されています。

その上、6月15日（火）には、LINDAを招いて、東京大学・本郷キャンパス大講堂（安田講堂）にてシンポジウム：「60年安保闘争の記録と記憶」というイベントが開催されます。

このイベントの入場料は無料。どなたでも参加いただけるので、興味のある方はその出席の返事を、必ず事前にyasuda615@gmail.com　までメールでお知らせください。ミステリオのスタッフの何人かも、当日受付などお手伝いをしてくださる予定です。

目的：日米安全保障条約の改定から50周年を迎えるにあたり、市民運動の客観的記録と

日本アートに綴られる主観的な記憶の表現とを考える研究討論集会

意義：1960年の安保闘争から50年。実体験者の記憶が薄れる中、国民的な運動が歴史的出来事としてどう記録され、継承されていくかを検討する。映画「ANPO」を題材に、国民的な体験の客観的な研究や記録の重要性と、主観的な記憶が宿るアート表現の重要性を対比し、探る機会を設ける。

日時：6月15日（火）　18：00　開場、18：30　開演（20：15終了予定）

場所：東京大学・本郷キャンパス大講堂（安田講堂）※駐車場はありませんので公共交通機関をご利用ください。

入場料：無料（要申込み）

映画「ANPO」は、戦後日本を代表してきた現代アーティスト30余名へのインタビューと彼らの絵画、写真、映画などの作品を織り交ぜつつ、アートの視点から多面的に戦後の日米関係を振り返るドキュメンタリー。監督は映画『TOKKO/特攻』のプロデューサー・ライターでもあるNY在住のリンダ・ホーグランド。2010年劇場公開予定。

MAKE A DIFFERENCE- Linda & ANPO

LINDA HOAGLUND, who has always been supporting MSTERIO (as some of you remember, she was a guest for MSTERIO TEENS!), had a fund raising event for her upcoming movie, ANPO, at one of my friends’ apartment.

About 100 guests enjoyed the food from OMEN, one of the most famous restaurants in NY, as well as wines and drinks.

The live music with the guitar and accordion created a great atmosphere.

The couple, who own this spacious apartment, offered this space with no charge, and also bought all the drinks for the event.

Furthermore, the food from the OMEN restaurant was on the owner of OMEN. Surprisingly many people contributed and worked all together to support Linda and her movie.

As a result, the event raised as much as $3,500! This is exactly a “Make a difference” event and I cannot help but appreciate it.

Linda will soon finish filming her movie, and the magazine AERA will actually feature an article on the movie this week.

In addition, there is going to be a symposium at Yasuda Kodo, Tokyo University, on Tuesday, June 15, titled “60 Years of the Record and Memory of ANPO,” (“60-nen Anpo Toso no Kiroku to Kioku”) and Linda will be one of the presenters.

Admission to this event is FREE. Anyone can join. If you are interested, please email yasuda615@gmail.com.

A few MSTERIO members are going to be there to assist the event, as well.

ミステリオサマーキャンプで、カウンセラーとして参加してくれたREIKA&JUNが、４月末にめでたく入籍、結婚のお祝いパーテイーは6月20日！　

そしてもう1カップル、MIKI&RYOTAは、6月19日ご結婚！！　この週末はミステリオウィークエンドになりそうです。

2010年はミステリオの10周年。このとってもスペシャルな年に、ミステリオを通して、2組もハッピーなカップルの誕生とは、FANTASTICな年になること間違いなし。

A News Flash!!!

I have two exciting news to announce~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

REIKA & JUN, who participated in the MSTERIO summer camp as counselors, have just gotten married at the end of April!! Their wedding ceremony is on June 20th.

And one more couple, MIKI & RYOTA, are going to get married on June 19th.

MSTERIO is going to have its 10^th anniversary this year, 2010. I have no doubt that it is going to be a FANTASTIC year, especially since we are having two happy married couples through MSTERIO!

CONGRATULATIONS! I am so happy for you. Stay happy!

Happy Graduation - Part 1

アメリカの5月＆6月は、卒業式シーズン真っ盛り！

私も、今月は双子=twins の義娘＝step-daughterたちの卒業式が2つ。

まず先週末は、1人目のJenniferの卒業式のため、車で10時間かけてオハイオ州にあるMiami UniversityにJoshとThomasと一緒に行ってきました。

アメリカの大きな大学には、必ずといっていいほど、大学のフットボールチームがあり、巨大なスタジアムが常設されています。そのフットボールスタジアムで、大人数のイベントが行われることは、珍しいことではありません。

Jennifferの卒業式も、２万人が収容できるYager Stadiumというスタジアムで行われました。

雨こそ降りませんでしたが、卒業式当日は、信じられないほどの寒さ。みんな、ガタガタ震えながら、客席側には卒業生たちを見守る家族、親戚や友達でいっぱい。卒業式の行進曲と共に、約2000人の卒業生たちは、客席にむけて手を降りながら元気に入場。すると、、、、Joshの目からは、一粒の涙がポロリ。

学生たちは、大学のロゴの色に合わせて、赤一色のガウンを身にまとい、それはにぎやかに、まるでお祭り行くかのように明るい登場ぶりにびっくり。そして、普段試合が行われるフィールドに全員着席。

と同時に、2000人近くの学生たちと観客側が、一斉に携帯電話を使って、自分の知り合いたちがどこに座っているか、手をあげて確認しあうシーンも、アメリカらしいところ。

私達の隣に座っていたのは、南アメリカからの移民の家族。スペイン語でお父さんが必死に自分の息子を探しあて、息子もお父さんの位置を確認したと思いきや、感激したお父さんは、思わず持っていたハンカチを振りながら両手をあげて、思いっ切りジャンプをしているシーンが、特に印象的でした。

たくさんの著名人たちのスピーチにも感動しましたが、その中でも、”ごもっとも、さすがっ”と思った1つの光景がありました。それは、大学長さんのスピーチの最後で、”卒業生の諸君、全員起立！”と声をあげたのです。

全員舞台を見て立ち上がった学生たちに、今度は、”諸君、今日この日が来れたのは、もちろん君たちが四年間、一生懸命勉強に励んできたからだという事実は認める。でも、ここでもう1つ考えてほしいことがある。それは、この卒業は決して自分たちだけのものではないということ。君たちが、晴れて卒業できるのは、この会場に来てくれたみんなのお陰だということを、一生忘れないでいてほしい、従って、君たちが今、ここですべきことは、観客が見れるように向きを変え、心からの感謝の気持ちをこめてメッセージを送ってほしい！”

すると、突然、2000人の学生たちが、口々に"Thank you!" "I love you." と、どよめくほどの大声が、空いっぱいに響き渡りました。

今の時代、卒業式に親や親戚、友達が出席するなんて、ちょっと恥ずかしいとか、かっこ悪いと思っている人たちもいるかもしれません。でもね、よ〜〜〜〜く考えてみると、何ごとにおいても、自分一人の力だけで成功するなんてことは、ありえないこと。助け合い、励まし合ったり、時には、意見が合わずに喧嘩をすることもある、でもあなたが好きだから、大切だから、一緒にお祝いしたいという気持ちを大切にするって、素晴らしいことだと思うのです。

卒業おめでとう、そして、、、、、I love you, Jennifer!!!!!

今週末は、Victoriaの卒業式でロスアンジェルスまで行ってきま〜〜〜〜す。

Certainly, it is graduation season in May & June in America!

I have two graduation ceremonies to attend this year for my twin step daughters, Jennifer and Victoria. Last week, Josh, Thomas and I drove for 10 hours to Miami University in Ohio for Jennifer's graduation.

Usually, big universities and colleges in America have their own football team with a huge stadium. Many events are held in such a facility. Jennifer's graduation was held at Yager Stadium, which can hold up to 20,000 people.

Although it did not rain, it was extremely cold on that day and everyone was freezing. The audience was filled with families and friends who were gazing at the graduating students. About the 2000 graduates were waving and smiling at the audience, while cheerfully walking in. Then... there was a big tear coming from Josh's eyes. I was surprised to see the energetic march of the graduates, who wore the red school colored gawn and felt the great exciting atmosphere which is almost like a festival.

Then they took a seat in the middle of the filed. Also, scenes like this one represent the American culture; the graduates started calling their family and relatives to let them know where they are seated and waving hands to each other.

There was a family who immigrated from South Africa next to our seats. As soon as the father found his son after a long search, calling his name in Spanish, he could not help but jump out of his seat, waving his big handkerchief to his son. It was very memorable.

Out of the many famous figures, who gave wonderful speeches, there was one which stays in my memory. "Stand up, all the graduates," the speaker said. "I agree that it is your hard work for the past four years that made such a great accomplishment come true. However, there is one more thing I would like you to remember. That is, this accomplishment is not only yours. Please keep it in your mind for the rest of your life that there are the people in the audience who supported you until today who brought you a huge success. Therefore, I would like you to turn to the audience and send them 'thank you' from the bottom of your heart."

The 2000 graduates then shouted their "thank you!" "I love you," which echoed and filled in the sky.

Many young people may feel shamed or shy when their parents and relatives attend their graduation. However, when you ACTUALLY think about it, it is not possible to achieve anything without any support from your family and the people around.

We all support and encourage, and sometimes fight and disagree with each other. An event like this gives us a great opportunity to appreciate each other's being and celebrate the accomplishment all together because we all like each other.

Congratulation on you graduation.... and WE LOVE YOU, Jennifer! We are going to Los Angeles for Victoria's graduation this weekend!!!!!!!!

Hello Lily!

ミステリオサマーキャンプ初期の時代に、チアーリーデイングを教えにニューヨークからやってきてくれたAMY。その彼女に去年の7月、LILYちゃんが誕生したことは、大分前のブログでもお知らせしましたが、今日は、みなさんに、先週AMYたちが家に遊びにきてくれた時の写真をお裾分け！　（写真の後ろは、だんな様のJOE。）

あと、2か月で1才のバースデーを迎えるLILYちゃん、5年先には、ミステリオ・サマーキャンプに是非とも参加してほしいなあ。

One of the most fun and wonderful MSTERIO activitiy directors, who used to teach us "cheer-leading" class during MSTERIO summer camp. AMY had a baby girl LILY last summer in July. Isn't LILY so adorable!!!

In 5 years, we would LOVE to have LILY as a camper. We cannot wait!

Look Back in Anger - My Yoga Teacher Erin

毎週一回、JOSHと一緒にヨガを習い始めて、そろそろ3年の月日がたつ。

私達の先生の名前はERINという、それはひとつひとつの動きを、ゆっくり丁寧（ていねい）に教えてくれる。

朝6時半から始まるレッスンなのに、彼女は毎回、とってもさわやかな笑顔で私達を迎えてくれる。だから、たとえどんなに眠くても、その笑顔を見ると、なぜか心がとっても休まるのだ。

そんな彼女には、もう1つの”女優”という顔もある。小さい頃からバレエやモダンダンスを習い続け、演ずることにずっとあこがれ続けたErin。その夢叶い、今はヨガを教えながら、女優としてガンバっている。

その彼女が出演しているパフォーマンス, 原作John OsborneのLook Back in Angerを、THOMASと一緒に観に行った。この作品じたいとても有名で、今までに映画化されたり、ブロードウェーでも何度もお目見えしている大作。

マンハッタンの東側、26丁目と2番街の、こじんまりとした劇場で、5人の俳優たちが全員, 息をのむような演技を見せてくれた。ストーリーはとっても暗くて重い、なんでこんなにもみんなが不幸にならなければいけないんだろう、、、、と何度も涙を流した。特に、ERINの演じるAlison Porterが、涙と鼻水でぐちゃぐちゃになりながら最後を飾るシーンは感動的だった。

早朝、まぶしいほどのさわやかな美しい笑顔で登場するERINが、劇場では同じ人物とは思えないほど、役になりきった真剣なまなざしに、ただただびっくりさせられた。

このマンハッタンには、俳優になりたいと思っている人たちや、実際にはまだ、俳優として世に出ることができない人たちの数は、星の数以上にいるのだろう。だからこそ、趣味の域を越えて、こうして人に見にきてもらうようになる為の努力は、並大抵なことではないと思う。

でもERIN曰く、”ちっとも苦に思ったことはないの、だってヨガも演技も両方とも大好きなことだから！”　。　自分が好きなことを、自分のキャリアにするって、なかなか思うようにならないのが現実なのに、、、、、、。

彼女の前向きな姿勢、そして目標に向かう過程の中で、自分なりに納得いくまでやり抜く力、これが私が彼女を尊敬する最も大きな理由。　　

ERINはアイルランドの公演の為に、来週と再来週のヨガはお休み。いつか, ERINがブロードウェーのストレート・プレーにデビューする日が来ますように、そうしたら最前列で、私、観に行くわ！　

Look Back In Angerは、明日土曜日に千秋楽を迎える。

Look Back in Anger- My Yoga Teacher Erin

It has been almost three years since Josh and I started learning yoga together.

Our teacher, Erin, offers a class where we can strive to be best and understand each posture.

Although her lesson starts at 6:30 am, she welcomes us with a very nice smile every time. No matter how sleepy we feel, her warm smile gives us a comfort.

She also has another face as an “actor.” Erin has been learning ballet and modern dance longing to become an actor since her childhood. Her dream has come true. She is working hard as an actor while she teaches yoga.

Erin plays a main character in the performance “Look Back in Anger” by John Osborne, and Thomas and I went together to see it. It has been a very famous play in time, and has become a movie and a Broadway show.

In the small theater located on 26^th street and 2^nd Avenue in East side in Manhattan, all the five actors performed wonderfully taking our breath away. The story was so tragic and dark that I wondered why everyone had to be unhappy, and it made me cry the whole time. Especially, Alison Porter, played by Erin, made the climax scene extremely moving by crying out loud.

Erin, who shows up with a bright smile to the yoga class, looked completely different on the stage. Her appearance as an actor was just so impressive. In Manhattan, there would be numerous people who seek a dream to be an actor and have not been able to make it come true. Therefore, I think, the efforts of those who made it to the stage are beyond our imagination.

However, Erin said “it was never hard for me since both yoga and acting are what I love the most and have a passion for,” while it is not easy for many people to make what they love to do as a career.

One of the biggest reasons why I respect her is because of the fact that she has a very positive attitude and never gives up in the process of following her dream.

Our yoga classes for the next two weeks will be cancelled since Erin is going to Ireland for the play. I wish Erin the best and that she will be on the Straight Play on Broadway soon, and I will make sure that I am seated on the first row at her very debut performance.
